Does a Wisconsin title transfer need a notary?
For a routine in-state sale, usually not. Wisconsin’s standard title assignment and the DMV transfer forms don’t typically require a notarized signature, and the DMV processes the assigned title without one in most cases. So before you book anything, it’s worth confirming whether notarization is actually required for your specific transfer.
When notarization does come up
- Out-of-state titles. Some other states require the seller’s signature to be notarized, so an out-of-state title moving through a sale may need it.
- Lien releases and affidavits. Certain lien-related forms or affidavits about a vehicle can call for notarization.
- Gift or correction forms. Some supporting forms used for gifted vehicles or to correct records ask for a notarized signature.

What to have ready
